Hair transplant – find out what it is and what methods are available

Hair transplant – find out what it is and what methods are available – baldness is an increasingly common and embarrassing problem that affects both men and women. Fortunately, modern possibilities give us the method of hair transplantation. This treatment is intended for people who, when looking in the mirror, unfortunately do not see lush hair, only thinning hair and a glow of skin where there was none before.

Alopecia can be caused by a stressful lifestyle, improper diet, illness or poor hair and scalp care. In men, it is most often caused by the harmful effects of male hormones, while androgenic alopecia is less common in women.

Baldness looks different in both sexes, men bald in such a way that their hair stays on the back of the head and very rarely falls out, women usually go bald on the top of the head and around the forehead. Worldwide, approximately 60% of men and 50% of women experience baldness. That is why hair transplantation is becoming more and more popular, additionally it is not a very invasive and effective procedure. This is a good solution for people who have already tried various specifics, diets, medications, but the hair is thinning even more, and new hair does not grow in the place where it used to be. It is worth knowing that hair transplantation is not only done on the head, but you can transplant hair on the eyebrows, mustache and even on the torso.

How is the hair transplantation done?

It consists in taking hair follicles from the occiput area and transplanting them to another place, usually the scalp, beard, eyebrows or eyelashes. First, the hair is shaved where the strip of hairy skin is taken. It is divided into implants that have 1-3 hair follicles. The resulting scar is easy to hide under the hair. The entire procedure is performed under local anesthesia, which is why it is completely painless. It is also minimally invasive, so you can return to your daily duties immediately after it, and the whole healing takes up to 14 days, although it is usually shorter. Transplantation is an ideal method for thickening hair and giving up synthetic wigs or toupees.

Hair transplant methods

The method of hair transplantation is chosen individually, everyone may have a slightly different problem and different expectations. Some of the most popular are the  FUE, GHO, STRIP, BHT and SAFER methods

  • The FUE method is one of the most modern and sought-after methods. It consists in collecting the hair follicles and the cavities are practically invisible. It is intended for people who are prone to scarring. The whole procedure lasts from 4 to 6 hours and is performed under local anesthesia, after the procedure you can go home.
  • GHO method The specialist performs the procedure through micro-incisions and collecting the hair follicles with a needle. Wounds heal up to 4 days, and the whole procedure lasts 6 hours. It can be done gradually, e.g. over several days.
  • The STRIP method is a basic hair transplant consisting in cutting out a strip of hairy skin and implanting strips with hair in places of small defects. It is quite an invasive procedure and the wounds take longer to heal.
  •  BHT method   This method is used by men, it consists in collecting hair from other places on the body than the head. However, these hairs have a different structure than those growing on the head.
  • The SAFER method is one of the breakthrough solutions for hair transplantation. They are taken from the chest, back, legs and arms. The procedure is safe and minimally invasive.

The price of the procedure

Hair transplantation is an aesthetic medicine procedure, however, this service is expensive. The price depends on the number of transplanted hair implants and the method we choose. The price ranges from PLN 1,500 to even PLN 30,000. Many clinics offer payment in installments, which allows you to conveniently spread payments.

Hair transplant – what are the contraindications

There are several reasons that make this procedure impossible. The most common diseases are:

      • Tumor
      • Inflammation of the skin on the head
      • Diabetes
      • Hormonal disorders (in women)
      • Cardiovascular disease
      • Alopecia areata
      • People at risk of keloid formation.

Many people dream of lush hair, but it happens that due to genetics, despite the young age, hair is lost. Undoubtedly, they affect the image of a person. A man who loses his hair loses self-confidence and everyone wants to look attractive. For women, hair is an asset of femininity and an opportunity to change your appearance, so a hair transplant can really help to gain confidence and make us feel good about ourselves.

There are many methods that are more or less invasive, so everyone can choose something for themselves. Many factors can affect baldness, stress, diseases or inadequate care, so it is worth considering what may be the reason for hair loss. If you decide to undergo a hair transplant, you should look for a proven clinic that offers a sterile procedure performed by qualified personnel, then we can be sure that the hair attachment will be carried out safely. The price is quite high, however, the sooner we decide to carry out this treatment, the better, because when baldness continues and the area of hair loss increases, the price will be even higher and the progress of baldness will be more visible.
