Jak zorganizować wczasy za granicą na własną rękę?

How to organize holidays abroad on your own?

How to organize holidays abroad on your own? Traveling is a beautiful passion. Not only do we have a unique opportunity to see new, beautiful places, but above all we get to know new cultures, cuisines and learn about foreign customs. Regardless of whether we decide to stay in a hotel, a round trip or any other form of travel. However, we can count on the most beautiful – and most unforgettable – experiences when we organize holidays abroad ourselves, deciding what is important to us. Is it possible? Of course! And contrary to appearances, it is not that difficult or expensive at all. If you are interested in the topic, I invite you to read on.

First and foremost, money – How to get local currency?

When choosing a holiday abroad, we need to equip ourselves with cash. And not only for the journey (or flight), but above all for the stay, hotel payment, meals, etc. Of course, we can go to the exchange office. Or withdraw your country’s currency directly from an ATM. In both cases, we will come out like the proverbial “Zabłocki on soap”. We can finally take advantage of network resources. The place where it will be possible to exchange currency is the Polish service currencyomat.pl. We can exchange money with other users by transfer from the account (pay into a foreign currency account) or send it to the destination point abroad (e.g. pay for a museum or hotel ticket). Importantly, there is no spread (the difference between the buy and sell rate) for these transactions. We will only pay a small transaction commission. Let us also remember that.

Costs of holidays abroad with a travel agency

I don’t think anyone needs convincing that foreign tourism offices impose huge margins. In fact, for a stay for a couple for ten days, we will often have to pay well over five-six thousand. This is a lot, and in fact for this amount we only have guaranteed transport, hotel stay, meals (available at certain times) and the care of a resident who usually offers optional trips from the office at unfavorable prices.Traveling on our own, we decide when and where we eat, where we shop. In fact, every country has its discount stores and making budget purchases (even without knowing basic English) is not a problem. Holidays abroad are also an unforgettable opportunity to visit local pubs, markets and charming streets. Something that we will definitely not experience with a group trip. I also highly recommend using local public transport. This allows us not only to reach little-known places, but also to come into contact with unforgettable local folklore. Very often in tourist destinations there are also companies offering car rental at attractive prices. In some locations (e.g. Madeira) it is one of the few opportunities that will allow you to discover the heart of this beautiful island.

What about accommodation?

Currently, more and more people, when going on holiday abroad, decide to use Airbnb or booking.com. The first offers to rent a room or an apartment directly from the owners. Despite the fact that we pay in advance, the portal cares a lot about its opinion and helps in disputes. In turn, booking.com is a huge database of accommodation points around the world. It is constantly expanded and offers competitive prices.

What else is worth remembering?

First of all – about insurance. Preferably in the extended scope, including medical care and extreme sports. Let’s carefully read the general terms and conditions of the selected insurer to check what the guarantee sum offers, what medical services are covered by it, and above all, what premises exclude the liability of the insurance company. Often, optional trips offer the opportunity to see places that can be reached for pennies by local bus or tram. What’s more, traveling only with a travel agency, we are unlikely to see anything more than what is described in the tourist guide. Traveling on our own, we are not limited by anything but our own ingenuity and budget. Let us also remember that tours are also offered by local offices. They are often organized every few days, and we will pay much less for them. Although here for some a foreign language may be a barrier. It is in vain to expect the guide to speak Polish. The most commonly used are English, German, less often French or Italian.

Holidays abroad on your own. Is it worth a try?

I definitely think so. Not only do we save a lot of money (for example, a trip with a travel agency to Spain in Tenerife in a week for a couple costs from six to almost ten thousand in one of the most famous travel agencies). We will do it ourselves by thirty or forty percent cheaper, but above all, we do it our way. Nothing is as annoying as hearing that a warm dinner will no longer be served because we were half an hour late enjoying the views.Besides, no organized trip will give us this thrill and excitement when we can really come into contact with the local culture. If the very idea stresses us out, let’s start with a country that is closer. The Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy are beautiful, and each of these places can be reached by car or coach. It remains for me to wish you a wide road and happy travels. See you on the trail!
